Home to Butterfly

One day I saw, while in the yard,
A lively butterfly.
It’s wings were large and colorful
And quickly caught my eye.

And as I cautiously approached
I carefully observed,
The colors on its lovely wings
And how the patterns curved.

And then to my surprise I found,
Another butterfly.
Its colors matched the first so well
I couldn’t help but sigh.

Then while I watched them move along,
A common perch they found.
They came together gracefully
Without the slightest sound.

And then while mesmerized I saw
These two come face to face
And then they seemed to touch their legs
Which looked like an embrace.

T’was then they quickly fluttered off,
The two were side by side.
They’d flutter and then flap their wings
And then they’d stop and glide.

But then they came upon a house,
A tiny house for birds.
Then went inside this little place,
Communing without words.

I thought this was a special house
And now I knew just why;
It had become the spacious house
The home to butterfly.
