Home From Work

It seemed like any other day,
When he came home from work.
His body and his mind were spent
From labors never shirked.

With dinner pail placed in the sink,
He found his easy chair,
Then he removed his heavy boots,
While treating them with care.

Then as he settled back to rest,
He closed his tired eyes,
But wasn’t really ready for
The following surprise.

The children rushed into the room
Then ran up to his side,
And with their voices well rehearsed,
Happy Father’s Day they cried.

And then they gave to him a card,
They made with loving care,
And then he opened it and read
Each word they thought to share.

And then he hugged the children close,
His eyes so full of tears,
To feel those words, I love you dad,
Would last throughout his years.
