The other day was Saturday,
A day that I’m off work,
And so right after lunch I thought,
A weekend chore I’d shirk.
A restful nap just sounded good
And so I closed the door,
So as I lay to sleep a while,
No one would hear me snore.
Then just as I began to rest
The phone began to sound,
And with each ring, within my head,
An ache began to pound.
So then I got up from my nest,
Where rest would have to wait,
While I was answering this call,
But rest was not my fate.
I finished up the call and dared
To try my nap again,
But soon I’d be a grumpy bear
Who’s rousted from his den.
It seems the neighbor picked this time
To hammer on his fence,
But why he picked my snoozing time,
To me, just made no sense.
I gave up on the nap that day
And went on with my chore,
But guess what day tomorrow is?
It’s Saturday once more!
