Familiar Words

Although it seems I've always loved
And always cared for you,
I've also found a love, refreshed,
Is something we should do.

And so as valentines are made
For friends and lovers too,
I'll shake my box of words around
To find some that are new.

Oh how I love your twinkling eyes,
Your smile that melts my heart,
And how I love each word you say
And have right from the start.

I know that when you're on my mind,
I tend to stop and stare,
For in my thoughts, I picture you
As though you're really there.

And then with you so close at hand,
My words get hard to say,
For though in thought, when close to me,
You take my breath away.

And so with feelings welling up
I'll ask you for a sign,
By asking with familiar words,
Would you be my Valentine?
